Whilst studying in Germany, I have noticed that European guys don't ever wear jockstraps when they play sport. Why is it only we English / Americans only seem to wear jockstraps? They are far more healthy than other undergear for sport.

Perhaps it's a public school thing wearing a jock. But all of us used to wear a jockstrap for all kinds of sport. And a jock with cup for hard ball games like cricket.
I agree that Americans wear them probably more than we do though.
Medically better to wear one.-

A friend of mine regularly buys a new jock, wears it for a few days and then sells it for a profit on ebay.
People, it seems, will buy anything.-

lol ... you're kidding me ... perhaps i should do the same being a hard up student and all that. I personally only wear 'em for sport. thanks for your time in commenting though mate!

The stuff that gets sold on Ebay is crazy.
:-)
There are many dubious ways to make money open to students. I'm not sure how exploitative it is though. -

Hmm... interesting thought, though - the profit might be a worth a few rounds of beer for a whole rugby team?!

What's a jockstrap?
And Hi! Welcome to Blog!

thanks for adding me as a friend ...
... a jockstrap, also known as athletic supporter, is a man's undergarment for use in sports ... it's kind of like a bra only for men ... it is a kind of support pouch for the genitals with two straps extending from the bottom of the pouch across the buttocks to the waistband ... and now you know!

Hi,
What an invaluable topic! Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen such great input or such an intellectual discussion about a jockstrap.
I think it's an important part of the sports wear athlete's have, especially playing American football. I wouldn't know, since I"m not a guy and do not play such sport. I can't think of any other sport other than hockey here in the US where it would be as vital or widespread...I didn't know that cricket, which is not too common of a sport here, required them.
I suppose if you don't write about other things, we'll be forced to talk about jock straps endlessly, so welcome to the blog community and tell us something else about yourself.-

First of all a big thank you for responding to my blog! ... lol ... I thought I would start off my life here with an interesting topic. Hope it wasn't too base a start!
Yes,actually right from the age of 12 we were told to wear a jockstrap at my school for all type of sport (be it a simple run or playing rugby.) When we played cricket I had to wear another type of jockstrap, this time with a cup.
Well, Julia thanks for adding me as a friend and you sound really nice and I hope we become big friends.
I promise we'll talk about something a little more salubrious. Has been immense fun so far, though!
Take care! Tell me more about yourself, too. I am about to start a 5 week holiday in England and then Sweden. I am part English, German, and Swedish, by the way ... what a mixture!
bye for now

:-)
Thank you for finding my blog interesting enough to send an invitation. I now know who to ask advice in looking for sports gear.
5 week holiday sounds full of tours and museums and (European) football games, scenery and much much interesting blogs to write that don't have to involve jockstraps--Especially with the mix of Swedish, German, English blood generating new posts. I don't deny the necessity or doubt the comfort of jockstaps, of course, but we'd like to read about your travels, too. As you know, I'm American, and Europe is not as easily accessible from L.A. as it might be from even the East Coast, which is why I want to move there--am fascinated by the UK, and Europe in general. I think there is so much culture, and education! I get inspired just thinking about it!
Where in England will you be visiting? Where in Sweden? I've got a shirt that says "Sverge"! It's yellow with blue writing. Has to be my favorite t-shirt.
We had a foreign exchange student from Norway at school who had been born in Sweden, and had lived in Germany and is currently living in Norway. It was great fun sitting next to her, except she didn't want to tell us anything about her home or what it was like for her here...maybe she didn't like the attention....she spoke norwegian and swedish and german and english and knew french. She was brilliant, except when we prodded, begged, or wanted pictures of her home, she would brush us off, as if they were boring.
So, tell us about your trips! We're waiting.
~Julia

I actually didn't know that people in Germany didn't wear them. I live in the US are they are pretty much a given when playing any sport.
I always was confused as to why more people wear speedos in europe, but hardly anyone ever does in the US? -
- 2007-07-22 @ 11:36:38
we just call it supporter...i uset to wear it when i play soccer or basketball sometimes and even when i just do morning jogging, it really helps. Yeah, it's more cofortable and safe to, you can do any movement without havig fear to hurt your balls...
Cool topic -
- 2007-08-30 @ 10:38:44
As Imimitation says: jockstraps allow total movement and are kinder to your balls!

Actually, one more final note before I start a whole new blog.
I like to wear a jockstrap for any kind of sporting activity as I feel it gives you the utmost freedom but at the same time total support! End

Thank you for adding me; I never knew what a jockstrap was although reading through this post and then reading your comments has helped me.

you are kidding me Dennis - perhaps a jockstrap is a public school thing! - anyhow glad it has enlightened you. Liverpool for the CUP!

I guess it's something to do with England being the land of cricket and rugby, and the states being home to American Football - Europe is more about soccer, I guess, where a nice pair of briefs suffice... although like you I personally prefer a jock for all sports, and the gym. Can't beat them for support and comfort, they stop everything bouncing about. Maybe it's just the way you're raised and taught? I didn't go to a public school, but we just generally wore jocks for everything sporty. Of course, for cricket they're essential gear, else you end up with a box lying on the crease.

most boys at my school wore jocks: speedos or briefs were only for wimps! Some boys went commando under their rugby shorts, but when they got a bit hard everyone noticed!

i wore a jockstrap at school for pe, football and with a box for cricket,it was compulsory, and white nylon shorts, which made the jock visible underneath.i didnt mind wearing it as it gave protection and support ,moreso during cricket with the box.the pe teacher checked i was wearing one regularly.i still wear one now for sports.

- 2007-10-26 @ 21:35:16

Benjaminbrum
American's wear them.
I've not noticed English guys wearing them. The "cup" was the support of choice during my rugby playing days.
I only bought a jockstrap after stopping playing rugby.
